Greetings from TDN.

Last week across travel distribution, the GDS majors kept pulling in different directions on two fronts at once. On payments, Amadeus is building Outpayce piece by piece, Sabre bought its way into the same ambition through Conferma, and Travelport has stayed out of the payments business entirely since selling eNett and Opal in 2020. On hotel content, all three moved within days of each other: Sabre expanded its HBX Group tie-up to 250,000 properties, Travelport pushed its new TripServices API layer, and Amadeus joined Google's Universal Commerce Protocol for Lodging.

New Accelya data undercuts a decade of industry assumption too: NDC bookings are growing just as fast through GDS channels as everywhere else, proof that NDC adoption was never really about going direct. Qantas quietly raised its GDS surcharges again, Lufthansa named its first ten Premium NDC aggregator partners, and Emirates became the first major Gulf carrier to build a licensed crypto payment rail directly into its own checkout. In Africa, Etihad closed interline deals with Air Peace, Africa World Airlines, and Fastjet Zimbabwe in the space of three weeks, laying distribution groundwork months ahead of its own direct flights. And for anyone evaluating NDC aggregators, TDN broke down what actually decides those deals once the pitch decks are put away.

All worth reading!

Lufthansa Graded Its NDC Aggregators. Ten Made the Top Tier.

Lufthansa Group has turned its NDC aggregator relationships into a public, points-based ranking system for the first time. Ten partners made Premium status for 2026. Sabre, Amadeus, Travelport, and Duffel did not.

Three GDS, Three Payment Strategies: Why Travelport Won’t Own the Money It Moves

Amadeus is building a payments company inside its GDS through Outpayce, while Sabre bought its way to the same ambition via Conferma Pay. Travelport, which sold its own payments business to WEX in 2020, has built nothing to replace it.

Three GDS, One Problem: Hotel Content Fragmentation Becomes the New Battleground

Sabre expanded its HBX Group tie-up to roughly 250,000 properties, Travelport launched its TripServices API layer, and Amadeus joined Google's Universal Commerce Protocol for Lodging, all within weeks of each other. Three different approaches to the same fragmentation problem the airline side has already lived through.

Etihad Is Building Africa From the Outside In

Etihad signed interline deals with Air Peace, Africa World Airlines, and Fastjet Zimbabwe in three weeks, none of them putting an Etihad aircraft on the ground. Two of the three converge on the same direct-launch date in March 2027.

Emirates Joins Crypto.com, Making Crypto Payment Bankable

Emirates has built a licensed crypto payment rail directly into its own checkout flow for UAE residents, settled in AED under UAE regulatory oversight. It is not the industry's first crypto acceptance, but it is the first at this scale and regulatory weight.

Qantas Widens the Gap Between GDS and Direct Channels With Quiet Surcharge Update

Qantas raised its distribution surcharges again from 29 July, with the steepest percentage increase landing on Standard NDC booked through GDS. The update arrived through an agency portal notice, not a press release.

How Travel Management Companies Really Choose an NDC Aggregator

Content relevance sets the shortlist, commercial viability clears the next hurdle, and servicing quality decides the renewal. TDN breaks down the order procurement teams actually follow, whatever the pitch decks claim.

NDC Was Never About Going Direct. The Market Is Finally Proving It.

New Accelya data shows NDC bookings distributed through GDS channels growing at almost the same rate as NDC overall. The content advantage that direct channels were supposed to own increasingly belongs to whichever channel has NDC connectivity.
