This week separated ambition from execution.

For years, Nevio has been Amadeus’s answer to the future of airline retailing, a bold, well-articulated vision. But vision without delivery remains theoretical. The partnership with TCS signals something different: execution at scale. When a company of that size commits, timelines become real, and airlines that have been observing from a distance now have a reason to engage.

Then there is Alessandro Ciancimino. In an industry driven by announcements and keynote narratives, his perspective stood out for its clarity. NDC leadership is not defined by who moves first, but by who can sustain performance when volume arrives. That is a far more demanding test and one many platforms have yet to fully face.

Both developments point to the same shift: travel distribution is moving out of experimentation and into accountability. The concepts are no longer the challenge. Execution is.

In Africa, this transition is being observed more than it is being driven. The retailing shift is not approaching, it is already underway. The gap is not awareness, but pace and ownership of response. Will African carriers shape their own retailing strategies, or end up deploying systems designed for other markets?

That question will define the next phase of aviation distribution on the continent.
